Lora Alston Merchant 87, of Moss Bluff, La died at home May 12, 2017.

Mrs. Merchant was born October 19, 1929 in DeQuincy, La to M.R. and Vonnie Alston. She graduated as Salutatorian from Singer High School.

She moved to Deridder where she met E.W. Merchant who she later married. They moved to Moss Bluff, LA where she has resided since.

She worked for the Calcasieu Parish Library for 34 years where she retired, establishing first library in Moss Bluff. She was a member of First Baptist Church in...

Mrs. Merchant was born October 19, 1929 in DeQuincy, La to M.R. and Vonnie Alston. She graduated as Salutatorian from Singer High School.

She moved to Deridder where she met E.W. Merchant who she later married. They moved to Moss Bluff, LA where she has resided since.

She worked for the Calcasieu Parish Library for 34 years where she retired, establishing first library in Moss Bluff. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Moss Bluff and was a member of the Moss Bluff Eastern Star Chapter #242 for 50 years. Mrs. Merchant loved to spend time with her granddaughter and two great grandsons. She loved reading, knitting, playing games and fishing. She will always be remembered for her love of helping others.

Lora Merchant is survived by E.W. Merchant, one son, Robert E "Bob" Merchant, one granddaughter, Kendra Merchant and two great grandsons, Tyler and Trevor Guillory.

She was preceded in death by her parents M. R. and Vonie Alston, sister, Wavalie Alston and daughter in law, Laurie Merchant.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday May 20, 2017. The viewing will be from 9:00 am up to the service at 11:00 am at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff, La. Rev James Rivers of the First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff will officiate. Service and Burial will follow at the Old Ritchie Cemetery.
