Dorothy Mae Nixon, 89, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 in her residence.

She was born in Abbeville and lived in Gillis most of her life. She was a member of St. Theodore
Catholic Church, where she served as Lay Minister. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, Catholics in Action, and extraordinary minister to the home bound. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary Post of Moss Bluff and taught CCD at St. Theodore for many years. She made sure all her children received a college education. She was a...

Dorothy Mae Nixon, 89, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 in her residence.

She was born in Abbeville and lived in Gillis most of her life. She was a member of St. Theodore
Catholic Church, where she served as Lay Minister. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, Catholics in Action, and extraordinary minister to the home bound. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary Post of Moss Bluff and taught CCD at St. Theodore for many years. She made sure all her children received a college education. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and caregiver to others.

She is survived by her sons, Ted Nixon and wife, Joan Brenda of Lake Charles; Michael Nixon and wife, Margaret of DeRidder; Gary Nixon and wife, Vicki Lee of Gillis; Mark Nixon and wife, Jacki of Lake Charles; daughters, Donna DeBarge and husband, Randy of Moss Bluff; Brenda Thigpen and husband, Norman (Beaver) of Moss Bluff; sisters, Betty McClelland of Vidor; Frances Hagen of Ragley; twenty grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Nixon, parents; Luke and Leontine Buford, and brothers; Raymond Buford and Luke Buford, Jr.

Visitation will be Monday, August 14, 2017 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm with a rosary at 6:00pm and resume Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 9:00am until time of service at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1:30pm. Msg. Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery.
